A 1,2,3 Success Story:

AaronIMG_3265 (1).jpg

The 1 2 3 has helped me out in many ways but it helped me out greatly with my consistency. The past years before I started my grades were inconsistent, some times I get a good grade, most other times I would get bad grades. When I would practice I wouldn't make much out of it. I wasn't reaching my full potential in everything I did. Obviously you can't be prefect but by using the 1 2 3 it can help you overcome obstacles. You can easily target your weaknesses and work on getting them better. After a year of using this my growth in every aspect of the 1 2 3 has improved. Consistency has been a key word to describe it. Anything you set your mind is possible. By using the 1 2 3 you can accomplish anything.

1, 2, 3 YOUR MAP TO SUCCESS JOURNAL

is a personal visual guide designed to motivate and focus students in realizing their dreams in three easy steps! Students track their progress against their own targets, and discuss their results weekly with mentors. In turn, mentors encourage, and reinforce awareness of the required effort, and accountability to complete the students' goals. This collaborative experience over time, can strengthen bonds between mentors and students.

1, 2, 3 YOUR MAP TO SUCCESS MENTOR'S GUIDE

is designed to support mentors, coaches or parents, working with students as they progress through the Success Journal and process what it takes to work towards their dreams. The Mentor Notes (marked in yellow) alert mentor's when their expertise and experience may be needed.

Besides providing personal insight, mentors have the opportunity to see during their weekly reviews how students are coping in real time. They can effectively impact their students, understanding their successes and challenges. There is more opportunity to ward off negative behavior or poor decisions when meeting students regularly.

Mentors will be able to note if students require additional resources and support. Notably, students will feel more self-assured when they know their mentors believe in them even when they may question their ability to accomplish their dreams.

How It Works:

First, the template is used to create your Map to Success. Define your three key characteristics to achieving Your Dream: 1. Character Building, 2. Passion, and study habits leading to 3. Academic Excellence. Determine your day to day activities needed to accomplish the  key success factors.

Your Dream ...

The most important factor for your success map is determining your dream. When you're young, 'what you want to be when you grow up' is a question that evolves as you gain experiences and exposure to careers and opportunities. Even though your answers may change over time, it is key to define your dream and the remainder of the map will help develop a plan to achieve your goals. The journal will take you through a number of examples to help you determine your path.

If you are part of a team, group, or organization, a common dream may be an alternative to consider. Although the dream is shared among the members, each one will have their own set of key characteristics and action plan to accomplish the common goal.

You must have a dream before you can develop
your Map to Success.

Student's Example:

Here is a Success Map for a student athlete working towards his dream to one day play in the NBA. Once you have the key elements for your success map, you can develop a plan to track your accomplishments along the journey to making your dream a reality.

Tracking Your Progress:

With your Success Map completed, how should you track your progress? The 1,2,3, Your Map to Success Journal has a four point system. Students are asked to determine weekly targets, track their successes, what needs improvement, and other challenges. This week's items needing attention become part of the following week's targets. With hard work, consistency, and determination a student will see progress over time.
